Templeton to Honor Veterans with Huge Ceremony

Templeton Middle School is celebrating our nation's veterans during its annual ceremony.

Although it's a week before Veterans Day, is holding its 11th annual Veterans Day Program tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. to honor American veterans, both in Sussex and across U.S.

The event will be filled with tons of patriotic elements, including performances by the eighth grade band and choir, the reading of the winning essay from the school's essay contest and a veterans' address given by Army Captain Dylan N. Abler.

Alber is commander of the 457th Chemical Company in Wisconsin, and served as platoon leader in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009. He is highly decorated with awards and commendations that include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal, among many others.

"It's really going to be a spectacular event," said Denise Lindberg, the spokesperson for the district.

In addition, a ceremonial color guard from the Wisconsin National Guard will lay wreaths to honor veterans who became missing in action or prisoners of war. Veterans who attend the event will also be individually recognized and introduced.

Students at the school have also been preparing for the event. The middle school student council did a fundraiser in order to send a veteran on a military honor flight to Washington D.C., costing the group $500.

They began selling stars for $2 on Oct. 31 in hopes of raising the money. The stars are being strategically stuck to a wall to spell out the word "Freedom."

Area veterans are encouraged to attend and be recognized for their service. After the event, a reception will be held only for veterans.
