Beep Beep! Drivers Education Revving Up for Hamilton Students

Ready to get out on the open road in Sussex and into adulthood? These are all the details and deadlines you need to know for the Hamilton drivers' education program.

Registration for fall drivers’ education – including theory, simulation and behind-the-wheel – begins August 14.

Completed forms with fees will be accepted at the high school office during school hours or by mail. Students who will be 16 years old by April 30, 2013 are eligible to enroll in all three phases of the program. Younger students will finish behind-the-wheel when they are eligible.

The theory phase begins on September 11 and includes 15 two-hour classes from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m.

Theory will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The simulation phase, which starts the week of October 22, is six two-hour classes. Behind-the-wheel includes six two-hour lessons and is held Monday through Thursday from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. or from 3:20 to 5:20 p.m.

Students can also take calsses on Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m. or 10 a.m. to noon.

Fees are $350 for the full program, and Hamilton spokesperson Denise Lindberg emailed Patch to address questions about the programs effects on taxpayers.

"Our Drivers Ed program is self-funded, meaning the fees students pay cover all the costs of the program," Lindberg said. "No taxpayer money is used to support the program. There are some independent, private Drivers Ed program available to students, as well, and they use Hamilton High School classrooms after school."
