Police Reports: Identity Theft, Expensive Garage Burglary and a Mailbox Basher

Here's a look at last week's most interesting police reports in Sussex.

Fraud
Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 5:22 p.m.
A 35-year-old Sussex woman called police saying she was the target of identity theft. The woman became suspicious after she was contacted by an out-of-state car dealership saying she was pre-approved for a car loan she requested. The woman said she never had contact with this dealership and made arrangements to stop the process with her bank. 

Burglary
Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 10:13 a.m.
A man called police to his home on the N6500 block of Laurel Court after realizing multiple things, including a gun, were stolen from his garage. The 66-year-old Sussex man left his home at 3 p.m., and when he returned saw that his gold-chain bracelet was missing from the garage. After further inspection, he realized it wasn’t the only thing gone. His engine scanner, plasma cutter, radio, jig-saw, hammer, reciprocating saw and a Blackhawk pistol were also stolen. The gun was valued at $879.

Criminal Damage to Property
Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:47 a.m.
Homes near the corner of Clover Drive and Essex Circle found something odd when they woke up. Six residential mailboxes were damaged after a vehicle struck them while driving westbound on Clover Drive. Police have yet to find out who the driver was.

Criminal Damage to Property
Thursday, Nov. 3 at 5:02 p.m.
After visiting the Main Street  in Sussex around noon, a 64-year-old Hartford woman found something wrong with her vehicle later that evening. Her 2008 GMC Arcadia was keyed along the side. Police still don’t know who may have caused the damage.

Traffic Stop
Sunday, Nov. 6 at 5:39 p.m.
A 17-year-old Sussex male was stopped at the corner of Maple Avenue and Craven Drive on Sunday evening when police found he was in possession of marijuana. The teen was taken into custody, but there are no further details.
