Sussex Parks & Rec to Start a Fundraising, Event Planning Group

Similar to the Friends of the Pauline Hass Library, the Sussex Recreation Department is hoping to start a Friends group. Are you interested?

The would like to spark a new interest within the community by creating a Friends of Sussex Parks and Recreation group.

The Friends Group will begin operating for charitable, educational and benevolent purposes. Some of the goals of this organization may include fundraising for the , organizing and running a , enhancing the park system, adding to the community special events offered and supporting recreational programs.

The department is looking for adult volunteers within the Sussex community who would be willing to take on projects as a group that the Sussex Recreation Department cannot do without additional support.

β€œThe Sussex Recreation Department is growing and we have a lot of great ideas for enhancing the community, but do not have the resources at this time to see some of our dreams become a reality," said .Β "Creating a Friends Group would be a perfect partnership to make a stronger impact in the community."

Flaherty says the Friends of Sussex Parks and Recreation group is a great way to meet new people, familiarize yourself with your community, receive invitations to public meetings and informational sessions on the parks, receive letters and emails on important issues, and participate in member gatherings and outings.

"We understand you have a busy schedule, but with this group you are able to help as much or as little as your time allows," explained Flaherty.

If this group interests you and would like to become a member, or simply learn more about the organization, please join us for an informational meeting at on Monday, August 6 at 6 p.m. at in the North Open Air Shelter.
