Jobke's Strike Lifts Hamilton over East in WIAA Soccer Regional

Next up for Chargers is second-seeded Homestead on Saturday.

Senior striker Jen Jobke fired Sussex Hamilton to a 1-0 victory over conference rivals Brookfield East in Thursday night’s WIAA girls soccer regional at Hamilton High School.

Her scrappy, game-winning goal came in the ninth minute when East’s defense failed to clear the bouncing ball from its 18-yard box. Jobke brought the ball down with her chest, took one touch for control and calmly slotted the ball past the Spartans’ goalkeeper from about eight yards out.

The Chargers’ defense did its part as well, frustrating East’s attackers time and time again and securing a shutout.

With the win, the No. 7 seeded Chargers advance to take on No. 2 Homestead in the regional championship Saturday at 3 p.m. at Homestead High School.

The victory also marked the first time Hamilton has beat Brookfield East since 1991, said coach Tom Konkol.

“This is all about pride for us,” Jobke said. “They might be Brook East, but we’re Hamilton, and this is our house.”
