GMC Athlete of the Month: MacKenzie Latt, Hamilton

Sophomore has helped Chargers to share of the lead in Greater Metro Conference.

Hamilton's drive to the top of the Greater Metro Conference in girls basketball this season is in large thanks to the scoring of 6-foot sophomore MacKenzie Latt. She averaged more than 15 points per game in January and is at 17.9 for the season, and won .

MacKenzie might only be a sophomore but she's got a mature way about her, as evidenced by her answers in our Q&A below.

Who is your basketball role model?: Either Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Jordan, or Lebron James.  Dirk has such a great work ethic and plays with incredible composure.  Michael Jordan is any basketball player's idol because he basically is the best player of all time.  Lebron because he plays with such intensity and passion and has had to overcome a lot of adversity.  My "real life" basketball role model is my mom because she was a great player in her time and has taught me most of what I know now about the sport.

What is the most embarrassing song on your iPod?: "Gold Digger" from the Shark Tales album.  It's a funny song and I have to listen to it before every game because it puts a smile on my face.

If you could change any rule in your sport, what would it be?: I would change the rule that a player only gets 5 fouls.  I could use a few extra every once in awhile.

Best Super Bowl ad?: The "Sexy and I Know It" M&M commercial with the new brown M&M :) The little dance that the other M&M did was hilarious!

Something almost nobody knows about you is ...: I love to read! I know it sounds really dorky, but I think reading is fun :) My favorite book right now would have to be either The Book Thief by Markus Zusak or The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

If you could eat only one more meal, what would it be?: My dad's ribs.  They are the best ribs ever!

"American Idol" or "The Voice?": I love both the shows, but I'd have to choose American Idol.  I've just been watching that show longer and I love Hollywood week!

The three people, alive or dead, you'd like to have dinner with: Lebron James, Michael Jordan, and Abraham Lincoln.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years?: I would like to have a good job, I don't know what job yet, and still be involved in basketball in some way. Whether I am coaching or playing pick up games, I still want to be around the sport.

Other nominees in January were Kai Castaneda, Wauwatosa East/West wrestling; Riley LaChance/Seth Mortag, Brookfield Central boys basketball; Brandt Rogers, Brookfield hockey
