Would You Vote for Kathy Karalewitz? Picture This...

Would you vote for this person?

Picture this...

Election night polls are closed and instead of returning important election results to the County for release to the media, a municipal clerk decides to go to another municipality to "waste time". She then shows up almost 4 hours after the polls are closed, delaying the release to the media. Whenasked if there were any complications, she states, "Returning the results to the County was not my priority".

After being questioned further, this municipal clerk said she was finishing absentee ballots and that was the reason for her delay. After reviewing the poll book, it was evidenced that only 5 absentee ballots were processed after the last person voted in person.

Now, move to the next day, when, by law, all election supplies must be ruturned to the County Clerk by 4 p.m. This clerk did not comply with the requirement for nearly 2 weeks...and only after repeated requests! In addition, this clerk has had a formal complaint filed with the GAB for improper documentation while working in another municipality.

You may be asking, "Who is this candidate?"It is Kathy Karalewitz, running for the position of County Clerk of Waukesha County. What I find amusing is her tag line states "Restoring the trust and integrity to our elections". Really? Based on her past experiences, there is a huge lack of integrity. And with lack of integrity, there is a lack of trust.

Let's be honest with the readers Rick. You are VERY good friend with Kathy Nicholas and are supporting her hand-picked successor, Gina Kozlik. Your letter is completely false and you know it. It is a cheap shot at a highly qualified and well respected Municipal Clerk who is running for this office. The problems with the late election results were the sole responsibility of the current County Clerk and not the result of any of the Municipal Clerks who work their tails off. These candidates don't have time to worry about responding to nasty tactic like we are seeing in State and Federal campaigns. Let's keep it clean and let them run on their experience. Let the votes hire who they think is the best qualified for this office.

I don't know anyone here. Lets have the Patch check these reported problems out and see whats truth and fiction.

Experience matters! My vote goes to Kathy Karalewitz.

Her experience includes losing an election for the same post in 2002.

I don't know who these people are who are trying to turn this into a negative campaign, but I will choose the most qualified and experienced candidate. Kathy Karalewitz will be able to step right into the position. She has 25 years of election experience and I have confidence she will do a great job.

The newspaper right after the election discussed Kathy Karelewicz being the last clerk in with her records and that a volunteer actually confronted her about it and her possible intention to make Nickalous look bad. She did come in well after every other clerk. I thought I read she said it had something to do with the distance from Mukwonago to Waukesha... Just sayin'

Didn't you marry the Clerk of Courts Madden whos Mother is the treasurer of Karalewitz. I read much of this in the paper right after the election. I understand your support, but it is also important to get the truth out about how Karalewitz has handled herself while she has been Clerk. We don't want another mess in that office.

I agree lets have this checked out! We don't want someone in that office if she plays games with the election as a Clerk.

Trust in this position is important. When I looked Karalewitz up on linkedin she states she worked in Menomonee Falls then in Town of Mukwonago. I thought after Menomonee falls she was in the paper as the New Clerk for the Town of Waukesha and then worked for the Village of Mukwonago and then the Village of Eagle and then the Town of Mukwonago and one week after starting in Mukwonago called the Republican Party staff and stated she would be running for County Clerk. Why so many jobs, and why lie about the number of jobs in the past couple of years?

Actually Chris, I am a good friend of Kathy Nicholaus, but this is not about her...she is not running for re-election. Your point?? Theses are not falsehoods or cheap shots. All my statements are facts, esily verifiable, take the time and find out. She has had numerous positions in the past 5 years...is this job stability? I work the polls so I know how difficult this process can be. Have you worked them? Her defense of turning results in last does not hold water. She had a job to do and did not adequately live up to that. Her disegard for turning in the election materials, mandated by law, late shows a lack of integrity. I am all for letting someone who is experienced in, however, let them have a great respect for the job.

Someone I think indicated they thought I was a Karelewicz supporter. I don't support her or Kozlik. I believe Novack is the right choice. The other candidate's careersappear to be limited to the 4 walls of a clerk's office. The next clerk will go in with a target on her back. She better have experience working with other senior level leaders - not be in awe of them. She better know how to face people in situations that may be confrontational. Novack has years of experience in top level management. She'll go in and get up to speed quickly and fill all the other significant roles the county clerks is responsible for.

Kathleen Karalewitz has made numerous poor decisions including disenfranchising voters by giving them the wrong ballots, bringing in results late then, bragging about it to others. Gina is the best choice for the office; experience in the office functions, holds management positions, and works cooperatively with "other senior level leaders". Do we really want to place someone(Kathleen Nowak) in this office when we have an election in February and she doesn't even know the vocabulary let alone have a clue on how to administer an election. Vote GINA the best qualified person in the race for County Clerk.

Yes - if all Waukesha County voters want in their clerk is to promote a clerk - then go with either current clerk. One has only a high school diploma and no experience beyond primarily in-office work and the other with only 4 years clerk's office experience - hardly a huge clerk experience record. She also misrepresented heself in a quote to the disadvantage of two other candidates. If you want much more for your County Clerk, someome with extensive professional experience working with a wide variety of high level officials and leading major programs at a national and local level, and the educational credentials to back her up, vote Novack. Expect more for one of our county's most visible and controversial elected positions. I repeat - Vote Novack.
