Reinders Plans Move into Sussex

Company president tells village leaders distribution would be consolidated in Sussex from three different locations.

Reinders Inc. is planning to consolidate its distribution center in Sussex and bring 90 full-time jobs into the village.

Craig Reinders, president of Reinders, told the Sussex Plan Commission this week that the Elm Grove-based company is planning to occupy the former Poly One location at W227N6225 Sussex Rd. by the end of the year.

If the plan wins approval from the village, he said the company will begin moving into the facility by fall.

“This will be a corporate headquarters,” Reinders said. “The tentative goal is to start the transition in fall and be occupied by the end of the year. By June or July, we plan to be making improvements.”

Reinders, which has been in business for 145 years, is a distributor of products related to turf and landscape equipment and supplies. The company also distributes items to grocery stores and gas stations, such as firewood, rock salt and windshield washing fluid.

The company, which has always been based in Wisconsin, also has locations in Minnesota, Illinois and Kansas.

The site the company would occupy in Sussex contains about 22,000 square feet in office space and roughly 110,000 square feet of warehouse space. If the company moves into the village, Reinders said distribution would be consolidated from sites in Elm Grove, New Berlin and Wauwatosa.

He said the company only operates one shift, which is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, plus Saturday hours during peak season.

“There would be additional employees coming into the village, so there would be a slight uptick in traffic coming in,” he said.

The company also has a location in Waukesha, however, Reinders said if the company moves to Sussex, it plans to bolster the size of the Waukesha facility, which has a strong on site retail business.

Kasey Fluet, assistant development director for Sussex, said the Poly One building has been vacant for a couple of years.

She said the fire inspector has also visited the New Berlin location of the company to see what types of products Reinders would house in the village in order to see if it created concerns any concerns.

A public hearing on the proposal will take place at the Plan Commission’s June meeting.
