Stolen Checks Fund Gas, Fake Marijuana Purchases, Police Say

Richard R. Sparrow, 20, of Sussex, faces charges alleging he used $635 in stolen checks.

A 20-year-old Sussex man is accused of passing $635 in stolen checks in order to purchase synthetic marijuana in Milwaukee.

Richard R. Sparrow was charged May 21 with four counts of uttering a forgery as a party to a crime. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years initial confinement in prison and $40,000 in fines.

A Pewaukee man contacted the Pewaukee Police Department after checks were written out to his son and signed over to Sparrow. The four checks were written between Dec. 9 and Dec. 18 for a total of $635, a criminal complaints states.

The man’s son, Joshua Kueffler, of Pewaukee, was charged in January in the check theft incident. Kueffler and Sparrow admitted they forged the checks to pay for gas and to purchase β€œK2,” which is a form of synthetic marijuana.
