Man Arrested in Sussex for Fifth OWI While Driving 10 MPH

Another motorist became suspicious and called cops because driving was going too slow.

A 45-year-old Hartland man is facing up to six years in prison after Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested him Thursday in Sussex for a fifth time operating while intoxicated charge.

Villarreal was driving 25 mph in a 50-mph  speed zone and 10 mph in a 40-mph zone, which prompted another driver to call to report a possible drunken driver.

When a sheriff’s deputy pulled him, Villarreal said he was driving slowly because it was slippery out and initially said he hadn't been drinking. However, his speech was slurred and the smell of intoxicants was coming from inside the car.

Villarreal then told the deputy he had two beers about 20 minutes prior to the traffic stop and had tasted several different beers for a recipe for his job at a nearby restaurant.

Villarreal’s blood alcohol level was measured at 0.11 at the time of his arrest.

Villarreal was previously convicted of driving under the influence in October 1993, March 2006 and twice in April 2008.

He is being held in Waukesha County Jail on $10,000 cash bond.
