Blasting to Begin at Mammoth Springs

Multiple blasts will occur throughout the day for about two weeks starting July 22.

Economic growth at the corner of Waukesha Avenue and Main Street is exploding - literally.

The village and developers in June broke ground at Mammoth Springs, which will eventually become a mix of high-end apartments and retail locations in downtown Sussex.

Starting July 22, crews will begin blasting away the rocky foundation on the site. If you're in downtown, you'll likely hear multiple blasts each day between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for about two weeks. Notice was sent to residents in the area.

If you would like to schedule a pre-blast survey of your property, please contact Falcon Drilling and Blasting at (920) 685-5299.

Over the next several months the first of several residential and retail buildings will be erected on the site. The $21.9 million project will receive $4.7 million from the village as part of a tax incremental finance district.

Site owner Arthur Sawall purchased the property in January 2010, and has plans to construct a seven-building complex with a mix of retail and residential spaces. The construction would occur in phases with two "high-end housing" buildings coming first. According to the proposal, new multifamily or commercial buildings would arise annually from 2014 through 2019.

The rental costs for apartments range from around $900 for a one-bedroom apartment, to $1,200 for a two-bedroom apartment.
