PHOTOS: Final Sounds of Sussex Closes with West of East

Band West of East performs for Sussex's last outdoor concert series. Do you recognize your neighbors in the photos?

Sussex Parks and Recreation closed out its outdoor concert series Sounds of Sussex with band West of East Thursday evening, and residents gathered to enjoy the live music. With temperatures in the mid 70s, it was the perfect weather to curl up on a blanket in Weyer Park. And although the concert series is over for the year, the Parks and Recreation department is always looking for new talent for next year. This is an annual event, so if you know of a band looking for a summertime gig, contact Megan Sackett at (262) 424-3906 or via email.

Sussex to Talk Village Park at Outdoor Concert Thursday

This is your last chance to share your thoughts on the major redesign of Sussex Village Park, as well as the last Sounds of Sussex event this summer.

The last time to weigh in on the Sussex Village Park reconstruction plan coincides with the last time local residents can jam to live music at Weyer Park. The final Sounds of Sussex event at the park behind Village Hall is slated for Thursday from 6-8 p.m., and just like during National Night Out, Sussex officials will be addressing comments on the Village Park project. During National Night Out, the Village Administrator, along with members of the Village Board, set up stands with multiple artist renderings of the park’s projected design. Residents were told to ask questions and fill out comment cards to direct the Parks and Recreation staff toward potential changes. And although the majority of comments on Patch have been negative, …

Summer Movie in the Park, Complete with Concessions

Sussex's Outdoor Movie Night is here again, and really, what sounds better than watching a movie beneath the stars?

It's like a drive-in movie, but this time, you bring your own blanket. Sussex's annual Outdoor Movie Night at Weyer Park is here again, this time featuring the new animated family favorite Puss in Boots. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 10 starting at 7 p.m. Located right behind Village Hall and the Pauline Haass Public Library, the event at the park will be kicked off by music and family games. The movie is slated to begin at 8 p.m., and really, what sounds better than watching a movie under some Sussex stars? There will even be concessions available, just like a real movie theather. But this time, residents should bring their comfiest chairs, blankets and pillows to curl up on while watching the flick. Never heard of Puss in …

Sussex to Enjoy Ice Cream & Million-Dollar Construction Talks

The village's National Night Out and ice cream social on Wednesday will also be home to discussions on the Sussex Village Park master plan.

Between enjoying Sussex's annual National Night Out event and the Pauline Hass Library's ice cream social, village residents can learn more about the multi-million dollar renovation project to reconstruct Sussex Village Park. Starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Village Hall’s parking lot, residents will be able to ask any questions they still have about the project. Village officials scheduled the “open house” style meeting during National Night Out and the library’s ice cream social so more people would be available to ask questions. After detailed, 3-D construction plans were released in late June, Sussex residents have been buzzing about the potential makeover to the village’s largest park, particularly pertaining to the project’s …

Rain or Shine, Live Music Event in Sussex Tonight

Sounds of Sussex is back, and this time Andrea & the Mods will be performing in Sussex tonight while residents enjoy burgers, brats and beers.

The Sounds of Sussex concert series is back, and this time Andrea & the Mods will be performing on the lawn at Weyer Park from 6-8 p.m., free of charge. And the recent string of spotty rainclouds won't deter the concert from happening. Sussex Parks and Recreation Director Amy Flaherty says they’ll decide this afternoon whether or not to move the concert to a more rain-friendly location.  “We are for sure having the concert, but we might end up moving it to the Lions Open Air Shelter at Village Park,” Flaherty said. “We’ll be making that decision by 3 p.m.” Sussex residents gathered on June 21 for the first concert of the summer where people rocked out to the band Annie B and the Vagabond Company. But while Annie B was more soul and rock, …

PHOTOS: Sussex Rocks Out at Weyer Park

Sussex residents gathered at Weyer Park Thursday night for Annie B & the Vagabond Company, the band at Sounds of Sussex.

Sussex residents gathered at Weyer Park Thursday evening to bask in the amazing weather while listening to live music.  During the first Sounds of Sussex event of the season, Annie B & the Vagabond Company busted out their guitars and drums to give local citizens a show. The event happens on the third Thursday of three summer months from 6-8 p.m., and due to sponsorships, it’s completely free.  Andrea and the Mods will be playing at Weyer Park on July 19 from 6-8 p.m. “The Mods came together as a 3-piece band covering the best of the 60's, 70's and pop country music,” the band’s website says.
