Here's what's on tap this week in Sussex. All five candidates running for the open 98th State Assembly seat will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Gov. Scott Walker called for the special election in the 98th Assembly District, a seat that is vacant because State Rep. Paul Farrow was elected to the 33rd Senate District on Dec. 4. The election is Feb. 19. Five well-known appraisers will be available to provide estimates of your items at 10 a.m. at 2008 Highway 175 in Richfield. noted appraisers will evaluate your antiques. The fee for each item is $5. Chili and fixin's will be available during the duration of the event for $6. Board to discuss Sussex Sled Bugs use of the trails, a contract with the Humane Animal Welfare Society and renewal of a contract with TruGreen for lawn care.
The Village Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss a number of items that are on the agenda. During the meeting, which will be held in Village Hall, trustees will deliberate and take possible action on the Sussex Sled Bugs use of the trails, a contract with the Humane Animal Welfare Society and renewal of a contract with TruGreen for lawn care. The Waukesha County Energy Assistance will be at Sussex Village Hall on Friday, Oct. 12. Those in need of energy assistance can apply at that time. Week highlighted by a joint Town of Lisbon and Village of Sussex meeting regarding the library.
Town of Lisbon and Village of Sussex officials will meet at 6:15 p.m. Monday at the Pauline Haass Public Library for a Joint Library Budget meeting. The agenda consists of review and possible action on the proposed 2013 library budget and capital plan. The Board of Fire Commissioners will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Public Safety Building. The meeting will consist of commissioners being presented with the fire chief's report and consideration of new members, appointments, resignations and personnel issues. This week is filled with important meetings covering everything from Sussex's sexual predator ordinance to the village possibly buying a brick at Lisbon's 9/11 memorial.
As fall rolls into Sussex, bringing along a cool, brisk breeze, the events of summer are winding down. This week, however, is is filled with village meetings concerning some pretty important topics. Mark your calendars to attend them and hear first-hand about possible changes in Sussex to accompany the changing color of the leaves. Public Works Committee Meeting Village officials will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sussex Village Hall to discuss various items on the agenda. Some of the more important ones include speed tables at Ivy Avenue and Pewaukee Road and how to spend excess money budgeted for roads. It has only been my first week in Sussex as your new editor, and I can already see what an exciting community experience I’m going to have here. Interesting new businesses are emerging, community events are frequent and the people are friendly and fascinating. That being said, here are some events I’m excited to share with you this week on Sussex Patch. 5k Run/Walk Saturday morning is about fun and giving back to the community. It’s Sussex’s 5k Run/Walk starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Lion’s Open Air Pavilion at Sussex Village Park. All proceeds from registration are going to the recreation scholarship fund. What's on tap in Sussex this week? Well, for starters, it's not going to be a hot as it was last week. Last week, we had four days in which the high temperatures in Sussex topped 90 degrees, including Wednesday when the high was 98 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com. This week, AccuWeather.com says we're going to get some relief as the highs will be in the 80s every day. It looks like Thursday and Friday will be the hottest days of week - as temps both days are expected to hit 88 degrees.
