The 98th State Assembly district race is the most intriguing race on the ballot for voters. A primary is set for Feb 19.
There's no contest for the Sussex Village Board and School Board elections in spring. However, residents in Sussex will vote in a primary election in February, and it’s for the 98th State Assembly seat vacated by Rep. Paul Farrow. Farrow was elected to represent the 33rd Senate District during a Dec. 4 special election. Five Republican candidates have emerged to run in a primary to be held Feb. 19. Area residents voice their opposition, support for the proposed big box.
The Sussex Village Board on Tuesday unanimously approved an ordinance to change village conditional use code allowing for larger big boxes in certain areas zoned for business, a measure driven by the proposed Meijer store. Retail stores in the village's B2 zone can now be 250,000 square feet rather than 125,000 square feet as previously allowed by law. The proposed Meijer store is expected to be nearly 200,000 square feet. Trustees noted that the amended code would apply to all big box stores in the village's B2 zoned area, not just the Meijer store. Indoor soccer will be played at the Sussex Youth Hall this fall and winter after the Village Board unamiously approved an agreement with a large youth soccer club on Tuesday. The agreement, which was approved by the Village Parks and Recreation Board on Monday night, stipulates the Lake Country United soccer club will have access to the facility on the weekends from November this year to next March. The village will charge the club $2,850 along with a $100 deposit to rent the facility. The club will use the building from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then 4 to 11 p.m. for instruction and to play organized a 4-or-4 or 5-on-5 soccer. 2013 spending plan on the docket.
The village's parks and recreation board will meet on Monday to discuss and possibly take action on the 2013 Park and Recreation budget for the 2013 year. The board will also review the Aug. 2012 park scorecard report and discuss and take possible action on the 2013 park upgrades. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Sussex Community Center. The Village Board will meet on Tuesday to discuss a number of items including contracts for the Lake Country United soccer club and an employee participation policy for fitness and wellness programs. Sussex homeowners will continue to pay less than residents in nearby communities for trash and recycling services as a result of a likely Village Board decision, one of several agenda items on the docket for Tuesday's meeting. The Board will vote on a three-year extension of a sanitation and recycling services contract with Veolia Environmental Services that will have Sussex homeowners will paying about $35 less than in other comparable municipalities, where the average is about $170 a year for sanitation and recycling services. The Board is also expected to approve an agreement between the village and the Town of Lisbon so that residents can continue to use the compost site. Ryan Companies plans to build a 91,000-square-foot development that would feature the two potential tenants in a taxing district, and complete construction by 2013.
We now know who intends to occupy a 91,000-square-foot development off of Highway 41/45 and Pilgrim Road in the former Western Industries location. Ryan Companies plans to build a two-story, $14 million facility on a 17-acre parcel in a taxing district created by the village. According to a development agreement between the village and Ryan, both the Wisconsin Athletic Club and a Froedtert Health Inc. facility would occupy the two large spaces in the building. According to the agreement, Ryan has until Oct. 25 to enter into leases with the two potential tenants or the deal could be terminated. The Village President is chosen as Sussex’s representative on the board needed to make the final decision on the new business park.
Sussex Village President Greg Goetz will represent the village on the review board needed to officially approve Sussex’s new corporate park. The Village Board unanimously chose him during a special meeting Tuesday night, but Village Administrator Jeremy Smith says the board almost always consists of the same people. A representative from the Hamilton School District, Waukesha County Technical College, Waukesha County, Sussex and a village citizen make up the board. Village officials met for the second time this month in private to discuss the possible 400-acre acquisition. However, apparently there are money issues involved.
Sussex trustees met privately for the second time this month to discuss possibly offering real estate tax incentives to develop a business park behind Kohl’s on Main Street, according to the Sussex Sun. Village Administrator Jeremy Smith addressed the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee Monday saying they’re close to sealing the deal. “We’re working on development deals for a new corporate center, and we’re pretty close with that,” Smith said. “It would potentially be behind the Kohl’s. There actually isn’t a lot of vacant industrial land in Waukesha County, so the need for space is there. The empty lots we have in Sussex have some challenging issues in regards to wetlands and things like that, and the Village Board is cognizant of that.” …
