The Chargers host the WIAA track and field sectional on Thursday, and will have representation in six events each for the boys and girls competitions.
Drew Patterson and Toney Lock of Hamilton High School won individual track and field championships on Monday in the tough Watertown Regional, the start of the WIAA tournament series. See complete regional results Patterson, a junior, captured the 400 meters in 49.86 seconds, just .12 off the stadium record set in 1999. Lock, also a junior, posted a time of 13.1 seconds in the 100 meters. The top four places in each event qualified for Thursday’s sectional, hosted by Hamilton. Also going through for the Chargers were: Hamilton was sixth in both the boys and girls regionals. Arrowhead easily won the girls side and Oconomowoc edged Germantown on the boys side.

Hamilton was 21-3 this season and Brady Ellingson, a junior, was among the top 20 scorers in the state.
Brady Ellingson, a junior at Hamilton High School, was voted the boys basketball Player of the Year in the Greater Metro Conference, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Ellingson averaged 22.7 points per game, according to WisSports.net. That was tied for 19th in the state, based on the website’s rankings. The Chargers finished tied with Brookfield Central atop the conference standings at 13-1, and then lost 49-36 to Arrowhead in the WIAA Regional final. Also on the Greater Metro first team from Hamilton was Tony Gumina, and Andy Cerroni was Coach of the Year. Mark Gryszkiewicz and Jake Knueppel were awarded honorable mention, according to the Journal Sentinel.

Students from Sussex Hamilton High School and 19 other area schools took a walk in some big shoes Thursday when they worked one-on-one with local business leaders at the Junior Achievement Business Challenge at Briggs & Stratton Corp. These teens got the chance to test their intellect at running a business using a hands-on computer simulation. From choosing what products to buy, just how much of that product, marketing and capital investments to research and development choices, they were all acting CEOs for a day. Kam Cerroni holds the UW-Green Bay record for most consecutive made free throws, and has only one miss all season.
Hamilton High School graduate Kam Cerroni might be the best college basketball free throw shooter in the nation. You won’t find the UW-Green Bay junior’s name among the NCAA Division I rankings, because he doesn’t have enough made shots to qualify. But at 32-for-33 this season, he’s at 97.0 percent, which would be No. 1 in the country. A player needs 2.5 makes per game to be on the list. The only miss this season was against Illinois-Chicago on Jan. 12, and it broke his school-record streak of 40 consecutive made free throws. In his career, Cerroni is 70 of 79 (.886) at the line. Defense, offense and special teams all had standout performances as the Chargers moved into the second round against Verona.
The beauty of Hamilton’s 44-9 win over Middleton on Friday in a WIAA Division 1 Level 1 football playoff game was in its completeness. On offense, Drew Patterson rushed for three second-half scores and more than 200 yards. The defense intercepted four passes. And Kenny Lo was perfect on three first-half field goal attempts. Third-seeded Hamilton (7-2) advanced to face second-seeded Verona (8-1), which defeated Oconomowoc 23-13 on Friday. Accident occurred Friday morning before school outside of Sussex Hamilton High School.
No one was injured Friday morning during an accident involving a school bus and two other vehicles in front of Hamilton High School. Police, fire and medical personnel responded to the scene of the accident on Town Line Road on the east side of the school in the Town of Lisbon at about 7 a.m. According to Bryan Ruud, the district's assistant superintendent, one of the drivers was a student, who was attempting to turn left into the school parking lot. As she made the turn, a collision occurred with another vehicle, causing both vehicles to be pushed into a school bus, he said. "There was very little damage to the school bus," Ruud said. Hamilton Robotics Team 537 will be at the 45th Annual Summerfest at Maier Festival Park to share their awards and creations, and to compete. Chargers Team 537 will have their miniature remote control robots and awards on display. Also on June 30, other FRC teams, along with Charger Robotics, will be putting on a miniature competition with a regulation sized course at the SportsZone. Three of the girls teams qualified for the state meet during Thursday's sectional, including the 4 x 200, which won the state title in 2011.
Hamilton High School sends three girls relay teams to the WIAA track and field state meet in LaCrosse next weekend after a strong showing in Thursday’s sectional meet at Menomonee Falls. The 800 relay team of Toney Lock, Ashley Holicek, Ellen Buckley and Jessica Rupnow dominated the race in 1:42.81, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Milwaukee Riverside. Hamilton is the defending state champion in the 800 relay, and only Lock was not in that foursome. Two other teams finished second. The 1,600 relay unit featured Buckley, Katie Pollari, Ashlyn Paulson and Rupnow, while the 400 team included Casey Allen, Rupnow, Holicek, and Lock. Sophomore has helped Chargers to share of the lead in Greater Metro Conference.
Hamilton's drive to the top of the Greater Metro Conference in girls basketball this season is in large thanks to the scoring of 6-foot sophomore MacKenzie Latt. She averaged more than 15 points per game in January and is at 17.9 for the season, and won Patch's poll to select the Greater Metro Conference Athlete of the Week.
