Neighbors in Spring Green Subdivision At Odds Over Street Lighting
Strong feelings on both side over village's plan to install lighting as part of repaving project.
A compromise plan to reduce from seven to four the number of street lights proposed for installation in a section of the Spring Green subdivision will be taken up by the Sussex Village Board at its meeting Tuesday. Action on the lights was delayed from a previous board meeting as officials worked to achieve a compromise between neighbors who want the increased security and safety of street lights and those who want the subdivision to have a more rural feel with no lighting, said Eric Nitschke, village engineer and director of public works. I've driven through the neighborhood after dark, and agree that a number of lights should be added for safety precautions. I personally would move the discussion from whether lights should be added, to what style of lights should be added. The ones pictured are unattractive to say the least.
