The two companies have joined forces to urge Congress to “Come Together” before tax hikes and spending cuts push America over the “fiscal cliff.”
Thursday, December 27, 2012
As Congress and President Barack Obama attempt to hash out differences to stop America from falling over the “fiscal cliff,” Patch and Starbucks are teaming up to urge Republicans and Democrats to “come together.” The two companies are working together to make sure Congress gets the message America wants a viable solution to the country’s financial woes. The so-called "fiscal cliff" encompasses all of the budget cuts and tax hikes that will automatically kick in if Congress doesn’t take action before Jan. 1. Some economists say the automatic changes will push the country into another recession. The White House estimates the tax increases will cost 114 million middle-class American families at least $1,600 a year each. Patch, a company of …

Swing by the Sussex Starbucks on Main Street between noon and 3 p.m. to pick up a 12-ounce Cool Lime or Very Berry Hibiscus drink.
Here's two fabulous words for a summer day: free and Starbucks. The coffee giant will be offering a free tall (12-ounce) Refreshers beverage from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday. To spark conversation about changing America’s “national spirit,” the coffee giant will be handing out free drinks on Independence Day.
In a full-page ad in major Sunday newspapers, Starbucks CEO Harold Schultz said Starbucks will be handing out free cups of coffee on the Fourth of July, and for a good reason. The ad titled “How Can America Win This Election?” talks of the country’s dwindling national spirit and political divide. Shultz hopes that by offering the free Tall cup of brewed coffee, it’ll raise awareness for his campaign #INDIVISIBLE, a national conversation across all social media so “we can all put citizenship over partisanship.” “I love America, but we all know there is something wrong,” wrote Schultz. “The deficits this country must reconcile are much more than financial, and our inability to solve our own problems is sapping our national spirit. We are …

Half-price drinks between 3-5 p.m. and a new Chocolate Cookie Crumble flavor? Yes!
Thursday, May 3, 2012
When it's warm out, there's nothing better than strolling around with a frothy beverage. And with the recent string of outstanding weather Sussex has been having, this new and local deal is coming at the perfect time. Starbucks is launching its annual Happy Hour on Friday, where Frappuccinos are half-price between 3-5 p.m. through May 13. That means you can get one of the blended beverages for as little as $2. Now, I generally order a venti iced coffee with three pumps of sugar-free hazelnut (I know, I know, super boring), but I noticed this morning that they have a new offering: Chocolate Cookie Crumble. It's a blended concoction of mocha sauce, vanilla syrup, chocolate chips, milk and ice, topped with chocolate whipped cream (!?!) and …

Just in time for the summer weather, Starbucks gets new indoor and outdoor furniture and new decor to liven up Sussex's only coffee shop.
Have you been to the Sussex Starbucks lately? In the past week, Sussex's only coffee shop underwent a complete makeover. Everything from the indoor tables and chairs to the outdoor patio set has been replaced with new fixtures. The indoor furniture is made of "recycled urban wood," and the outdoor space now has a couch. Starbucks even got all new sun umbrellas for the patio, a much-needed improvement it was lacking on March's 90 degree days. So swing by and check out the new wall fixtures, display shelves and comfy chairs. Also, be sure to tell us what you think of the new decor in the comments.

I'll be holding regular hours at Starbucks on Main Street every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m.
Let’s be honest. Being the editor of Sussex Patch isn’t exactly conducive to sitting down and hanging out with the people I technically work for: Sussex residents. That’s why I’m setting aside a couple hours each week to hang out at Starbucks on Main Street so I can hear first-hand what residents are talking about. I want you to swing by, snag a coffee and come chill out with me. We can talk about story ideas you may have, advice on what you’d like to see Patch do next or anything that’s on your mind. I’ll even buy your coffee while we hang out. So mark your calendars, and remember, I’m the goofy-looking kid with the big Patch laptop wanting to talk with any stranger who says “Hey!” See you soon!
