Sussex Moves Forward Without Lisbon On Quiet Zone
The town's $2,500 offer toward the village's $50,000 commitment could cost approval for the project.
Sussex village trustees declined a conditional offer from the town of Lisbon to put $2,500 toward the cost of creating a railroad "quiet zone" on the Canadian National rail line. The town's condition: extend the nearly two-mile "quiet zone" stretch -- a project that will cost the village nearly $50,000 -- farther into the town. The quiet zone is proposed for Silver Spring Road on the south to Plainview Road on the north. The town's offer would be contingent on extending the quiet zone farther north into the town to include the No. Lisbon Rd. crossing. Oppose, why should taxpayer money be spend at the request of a few residents when the railroads have been in existence there long before residential and business have been. Taxpayer money should be spent on things that benefit the community as a whole. Also , spending $50,000 doesn't guarantee that the trains remain quiet, they still can blow their horns despite the "quiet zone".   more ›
