If the demand for food is always there out of necessity, it’s still subject to changing tastes, offers of better service or pricing, dips and turns in the economy, demographic shifts in customer bases and fluctuating commodity prices. Over the past two decades, the grocery business in metro Milwaukee has changed radically, and it is about to change again. Nowhere is that…

Residents are ushered out of the local stores until power is back online, a process that will take all afternoon.
Sussex-area residents shopping at a dozen local businesses – including the Main Street Pick ‘n Save – were cut short Thursday morning after a piece of power equipment failed, leaving the stores in the dark. Power was lost around 11:30 a.m., according to WE Energies representative Brian Manthey, and it's still in the process of being repaired. He says the repairs will take all afternoon. “It’s still going on right now,” Manthey said. “It looks like in Sussex there are 12 customers out of power. They’re still working on repairs… We’re still doing repairs, and it will most likely take the rest of the afternoon, until about 5 or 5:30 p.m.” Manthey said he’s unsure what specifically caused the power outage along Main Street, but he knows …

The group, which was formed by former Sussex Deputy Chief Cathy Selerski, bands together to raise money for life-saving tools that sometimes don’t make Sussex’s budget. “I retired as the deputy chief at the fire department in May after 29 years,” said Selerski when the group was formed. “And I knew it was time. I’d been talking about starting an auxiliary group for the fire department for years. Lisbon has an auxiliary, and they do so much to help out.” From …

The non-profit received a palette of food valued at $5,884 and a check for $500 as a part of the grocery store giant's 'Focused on Feeding Families Tour.' The tour stopped at the Sussex Pick 'n Save at 4 p.m. on Friday before heading over to SOS. Four food pantries in the Sussex area, like Milwaukee and Mukwonago, received similar treatment. The total area donations reached $25,536. Overall, the tour will be made 14 stops in five days, beginning in Minneapolis, MN on April 23. My favorite is Woodman's but there isn't one close enough to me to shop there regularly yet. I do like Pick n Save, Piggly Wiggly and Aldi combined as 2nd choices. I do double coupons at pick n save to end up with free things sometimes and this really helps the budget. Aldi and Woodmans are good for everyday low prices.   more ›
