Compromise Passes: Limited Lighting in Spring Green

Village Board agrees to install just three street lights instead of seven, but will pay to bury wires for future lights that may never go up.

The Sussex Village Board finally put the impassioned street lighting controversy within the northern half of the Spring Green subdivision to rest at its Tuesday meeting. It passed a compromise plan on a 4-3 vote that erects three instead of seven street lights but buries cable to provide for additional lighting in the future should it be desired. The debate pitted neighbor against neighbor, some arguing to the Public Works Committee that the subdivision should remain dark as it has been since the homes went in decades ago.
