County Supervisor Larry Nelson checks in with Patch from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
The Democratic National Convention has been jammed packed full of activity in Charlotte, NC, with thousands of Democrats backing President Barack Obama standing for the president during the event. For former Waukesha mayor and Waukesha County Supervisor Larry Nelson, a Wisconsin delegate at the convention, Michelle Obama’s speech Tuesday night stands out. “It was an incredible speech,” said Nelson, a former English teacher. “It was given in a very conversational, low-key style, but I think that is part of why it was so moving. Everyone was riveted to what she was saying. It was clear how sincere and personal she was.” Michelle Obama “really made the case for re-electing President Obama,” said Nelson. While the Republican National …

An estimated 2,500 Obama supporters from Milwaukee and across the world came to Bradley Tech High School Thursday afternoon to hear the First Lady's call to action to get out the vote in November.
After coming so close to meeting President Barack Obama when he came to Racine, 13-year-old Michelle Payne's dreams came true Thursday when Michelle Obama finished a campaign speech at Bradley Tech High School, patted her on the head, hugged her and told her she was proud of her. "It was an ecstatic feeling, something I will probably never feel again in my life," the Racine girl said. "She's my role model. I just started crying, and when she hugged me I didn't want to let go." Payne's emotional experience was echoed by many in the crowd of roughly 2,500 Obama supporters from across Milwaukee and the world who attended the First Lady's speech at Bradley Tech High School Thursday afternoon. In her speech, she recalled growing up lower class …

First lady is expected to be in the Milwaukee area on Thursday in a move that national Sikh leader describes as "reassuring and heartening."
First Lady Michelle Obama is coming to the Milwaukee area on Thursday to meet with family members of the victims of the Sikh temple shooting in Oak Creek. Obama will meet with immediate family members of those who were killed and injured, a White House aide told Reuters News Service Saturday on the condition of anonymity. It was unclear whether Obama would visit Oak Creek or the temple while she's here, or whether she'll meet with Oak Creek police Lt. Brian Murphy, who was one of four people injured in the Aug. 5 shootings. Murphy remains hospitalized and is in satisfactory condition. Obama also will attend a campaign event while in town. Gunman Wade Michael Page opened fire during a Sunday service at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, killing …

Media reports say Milwaukee-area congressman said First Lady has a 'large posterior.'
U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner is garnering national attention for comments he made about First Lady Michelle Obama Wednesday while talking on a cell phone at the Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. Referring to Obama's efforts to get children to eat healthy, the Republican was overheard saying, "She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself," according to the blog FishBowl DC. The blog said Sensenbrenner was talking on his cell phone about an incident he said occurred three weeks ago while at an Episcopal church auction. Sensenbrenner was overheard by a "Democratic operative" saying that after buying all their “crap,” a woman approached him and praised Obama. It was then that he made his comment about her …
