Letter to the Editor: Sussex Man Running Against Jim Sensenbrenner

Dave Heaster, a Sussex man running against Sensenbrenner for U.S. Congress in November, is taking a fresh approach at politics. However, he still needs more signatures by Thursday to get on the ballot.

Dear Editor,  I don’t have delusions that I am going to come in and win easily against Republican incumbent Jim Sensenbrenner. However, I would not have entered the race if I didn’t think I could win. And now is the time - in light of recent laws passed by the Wisconsin GOP such as The Castle Doctrine, Concealed Carry, and the gutting of the Equal Pay Enforcement Act. GOP legislators are clinging to their ideology and the things they come up with are almost insane. It's like they WANT to lose :) As for me, I'm running on a platform of “logic and ethics.” I will focus on transparency by using technology to bring constituents into the decision-making process. Real representation means participatory democracy with actively engaged citizens. …

LOL- He should buy a bottle of shampoo and get a haircut though. That way, when he takes Willie to the roof there will be doubt if he actually inhaled.   more ›

Don't Pave the Bugline: An Open Letter to the Waukesha County Board

Sussex resident Mark Chapman writes an open letter to the Waukesha County Board urging them to not pave the Bugline trail. Chapman outlines the top five reasons it's a bad idea, followed by some ways to compromise.

April 19, 2012 An Open Letter to Dan Vrakas, Waukesha County Executive And to the Waukesha County Board Mr. Paul Decker, Chair Dear Mr Vrakas, Mr. Decker, and the Waukesha County Board: There has been considerable discussion and feedback regarding your plans to pave and widen the Bugline trail. I have followed all of this with great interest. As a regular user of this trail (4-6 days a week), I strongly encourage you to leave it as a well-maintained, crushed gravel path. Paving the trail is costly, unnecessary, and – concerns about money aside – not a good idea. My objections to paving include: Paving will give the trail a much less natural look with minimal benefit. A paved trail would have a fundamentally different character than the …

Thank you, Mr. Chapman! I started the campaign to "SAVE THE BUGLINE, DON'T PAVE THE BUGLINE!" for all the reasons you so eloquently stated. I live just a few blocks from the trail and we use it for hiking, biking, dog walking and horseback riding. Our family moved to Meno. Falls six years ago to get away from the "hustle and bustle" of city life. We love the rural atmosphere of Meno. Falls and we…   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Lynn Kristensen Reflects on the Election

Hamilton School Board member Lynn Kristensen writes to Patch explaining her post-election emotions, thoughts on Brian Schneider and signing the Gov. Scott Walker recall.

Dear Editor, I want to say thank you to all those who supported me and provided encouragement. Their thoughtfulness has truly overwhelmed me. I feel good that we ran a clean campaign and focused on the issues that really matter to the Hamilton School District. I appreciate the opportunity to state my side of the story and to clear the air in this matter now that the election is past. I was unwilling to engage in a war of words during the lead-up to the election - preferring to let my work speak for me. Unfortunately, the efforts of the opposition to smear my name were successful, that is something I regret. The things that are being printed and said about me over the airwaves as "facts" are not true. I did sign the petition. I NEVER …

Letter to the Editor: Let's Call it a "Housing Recovery"

A local realtor tells us why it'll be a very long time before the housing market will "bubble" again.

Dear Editor, The article addressing the housing market with Danielle Mazza was flawed from the title on. It will be a VERY long time before the word "bubble" and "real estate" go together again. The appropriate title would have been "Housing Recovery." Danielle Mazza, quoted in the post, is one of our stellar new agents. She truly has seen the worst of a market and could easily recognize positive signs of improvements. But some readers doubted that, which prompted me to respond, giving a veteran's point of view. As an agent of 23 years, and the no. 2 selling agent in my office for most of those years, consider my perspective on this question. I have seen both the good and bad markets over that time, and I would hope that experience is what…

I agree. Lets not forget the existing home sales are at fire sale prices. Very little sales[wo]manship is needed when you are giving something away! Many of these are bank owned homes, and banks are sick of paying the utilities, snow removal, hazard insurance, and repairs on these houses. They are finally willing to drop the price to dump the dumps.   more ›

Letter to the Editor: What's Up with Local Law Enforcement?

Sussex resident Samantha Heffron writes to Patch about her frustrating day with local law enforcement.

Dear Editor, Last week I had an unpleasant experience with our local law enforcement after I was involved in a car accident. Nothing major, but I was struck by another vehicle from behind at the intersection of K and 74 in Sussex. It was the first accident I've had in 5 years and I was somewhat shaken up, although I was (luckily) not injured. A deputy from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident and I was surprised but how unfriendly he was, and was especially taken aback that he barely asked if I was alright before sticking his hand out for my insurance information and driver's license. The deputy returned my license and insurance card. He informed me that the other driver was issued a citation and that he "…

I actually had the same type of experience with the Sussex police. My car broke down at the intersection of Main and Silver Spring, and of course I was the first one at the light. My wonderful boyfriend got out and pushed my car out of the way (thanks everyone stopped at the light for asking if we needed help by the way) so the cars behind me could get by. We were not in the intersection, or on …   more ›
