There’s been a lot of speculation whether Kohl’s would keep its headquarters here in Menomonee Falls, but a revised plan has created some optimism that they will stay right here in the village. According to Tom Daykin of JSOnline, the village and Kohl’s are negotiating a new proposal that would include about $41 million in public spending to keep the headquarters in the village. The proposal would place the company’s primary building on 45 acres of village-owned land in the northwestern corner of the Woodland Prime office park between Good Hope Road and Appleton Avenue, Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald said in the report. In 1962, Kohl’s Corp. opened its first retail store in Brookfield. In 48 years, the company has expanded rapidly and is now a major national retailer with 1,067 stores in 49 states. And for decades, it has been a mark of pride in the village that Kohl’s, a company that reported $17.1 billion in sales in 2009, calls Menomonee Falls home. I agree with the trickle down. I just question the TIF #1 change to TIF #2 deal. I want to see Kohls stay, as long as it doesn't affect the tax base negatively- which it could if Kohls gets a new TIF and leaves in 10 years, or if the old building sits vacant.   more ›
