98th Assembly District Results Are Official

The results are now set in stone, and 28-year-old Adam Neylon is still the winner in the 98th Assembly District.

The speculation and intrigue in the state’s 98th Assembly District election have officially been put to rest – literally. On Wednesday, Waukesha County Clerk Kathleen Novack finished canvassing the vote count and posted the official results from the Feb. 19 election. Although there was much ado about the floating absentee ballots last week, the outcome was unchanged. Adam Neylon will still take the seat vacated by state Sen. Paul Farrow in December. However, former Pewaukee Police Chief did trim his 30-vote margin to 29, according to the official results. The official results are as follows:  Official results  Before the official results were posted, there was some speculation that roughly 160 outstanding absentee ballots could sway the …

Mailmen End Absentee Ballot Drama in the 98th District

Former Police Chief Ed Baumann needed more than 30 absentee ballots delivered to clerk's offices Friday to have a chance at flipping the results in the 98th Assembly District race, but that total fell well short.

Speculation that roughly 160 outstanding absentee ballots could alter the outcome of the 98th Assembly District election was put to rest Friday afternoon. On Tuesday, 28-year-old entrepreneur Adam Neylon edged former Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann by 30 votes to represent the 98th Assembly District. The Republican primary election essentially determined the successor to Sen. Paul Farrow, who vacated the seat in December.  There are no Democrats running for the seat, so Neylon will run unopposed in April. With just 30 votes separating Baumann and Neylon, several media outlets reported that those outstanding ballots could swing the election. But that speculation was put to bed after the mail was delivered Friday. Just 12 of the 159 …

Absentee Ballots Unlikely to Sway 98th District Results

There are still 159 absentee ballots outstanding in the 98th Assembly District race, but it's unlikely that those will change the result of Tuesday's election.

In the topsy-turvy landscape that is Election Day in Waukesha County, Tuesday’s 98th Assembly District followed suit with its own twists and turns. On Election Day, 28-year-old Republican Adam Neylon claimed a slim victory over former Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann in the race for Sen. Paul Farrow’s vacated sat. Neylon clipped Baumann by just 30 votes, and speculation has arisen whether 159 outstanding absentee ballots could turn the tide in favor of Baumann. However, those waves could merely be ripples. A total of 159 absentee ballots are still outstanding in the Village of Pewaukee, Pewaukee, Sussex, and Waukesha. However, of those 159 ballots, just 10 have been returned to their respective clerk’s offices. In order to be counted, …

Adam Neylon Wins 98th Assembly District Primary

Businessman defeats Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann by 30 votes in special legislative election.

Adam Neylon, a 28-year-old entrepreneur, narrowly won the special Republican primary election for the 98th Assembly District Tuesday — defeating Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann by just 30 votes. Baumann, Todd Greenwald, Matt Morzy, Neylon and Jeanne Tarantino ran in a five-way Republican race to replace Paul Farrow, who was elected to the 33rd Senate District seat in December. With no Democrat challenger in the mix, Tuesday's primary election was essentially winner take all. Neylon will be unopposed in the April 2 special election. Neylon, who celebrated Tuesday quietly surrounded by friends and family, said he hopes to usher in a new generation of GOP leaders in Wisconsin. "I'm excited. We worked very hard on this campaign, and I'm …

98th Assembly Candidates Distinguished By 'How,' Not 'What'

Five Republican candidates are vying for the 98th Assembly District seat Feb. 19. Though their ideologies are similar, their backgrounds are quite diverse.

In the special primary election for the 98th State Assembly District seat, differences between the five candidates aren’t so much ideological. Rather, the choice for voters on Feb. 19 lies with differences in the candidates' experience and approach to achieving goals. Ed Baumann, Todd Greenwald, Matt Morzy, Adam Neylon and Jeanne Tarantino are running to replace Paul Farrow, who was elected to the 33rd Senate District seat in December. The winner of the GOP primary is all but certain to win the Assembly seat in a special April 2 election because there is no Democrat running. On Monday, the quintet met in a Patch-sponsored forum at Carroll University to separate themselves from their opponents. In this race, age and experience are what make…

Ms. Tarantino, You announced your candidacy on December 4, 2012. In your deposition on the 28th of that very same month you said that you do not intend to work in Wisconsin again. Since you were under oath at the time, can we safely say that you have already forfeited this race? http://www.thewheelerreport.com/wheeler_docs/files/1205tarantino.pdf   more ›

Updated: Candidates Emerge in 98th Assembly District Race

A half dozen people are showing interest in the special election that still has to be called by Gov. Scott Walker.

Editor's Note: This article was updated at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday with information about Jeanne Tarantino declaring her candidacy. State Rep. Paul Farrow has not yet officially won the 33rd Senate District seat, although he is the only candidate on the Dec. 4 special election ballot, but nearly a half dozen people have expressed an interest in replacing him. Jeanne Tarantino, a Waukesha Republican, became the latest candidate for the job, throwing her hat into the ring early this week while Steve Edlund, who was once considering a run, has announced he will not seek the office. Republican Todd Greenwald, a Pewaukee resident, announced that he also running for the 98th District seat that includes Sussex, Pewaukee and portions of Waukesha (see…
