Future's Bright For Young History Scholars

Four students will advance to the regional competition of the National History Bee, and one is looking to head back to the national competition where he finished in second place.

Knowing the past has opened a great opportunity in the future for four Templeton Middle School Students.  Four Templeton students will advance to the regional competition of the National History Bee. Students who will advance are eighth-graders Blake Batzko, Maxwell Cavadel and Dominic Pino; and seventh-grader Andrew Tai.  Sussex has a - history - of performing well in the bee. Last year, as seventh-grader, Pino placed second in the first ever Middle School National History Bee. He'll be seeking the top spot in the nation this year.  The students received the highest scores on the written schoolwide Intramural Bee that covered U.S., world and modern history topics. UPDATE: Templeton Student Places Second in National History Bee

Templeton Middle School's Dominic Pino placed second of 16 finalists that competed in the televised National History Bee on June 1. Read what question sealed the tournament.

After first heading to Washington D.C. and then to Mount Vernon, Templeton Middle School seventh-grader Dominic Pino has placed second in the first ever Middle School National History Bee. The first place winner, Tajin Rogers from McLean, VA, won by beating the buzzer with this question: Before celebrity host Al Roker could finish the question, Rogers buzzed in with the correct answer, "Queen." However, Sussex's local middle schooler isn't discouraged. According to an email his mother Lisa Pinto sent to Templeton social studies and reading teacher Alan Schneider, Dominic isn't giving up. "Hopefully, we can do it again next year," Lisa Pinto said. "Dominic would like one more try at that grand prize now that he got that close." Hamilton …

Templeton Students Advance in National History Bee Competition

Two Hamilton middle schoolers made the cut and are off to the regional bee.

Templeton Middle School seventh-graders Sean Durian and Dominic Pino advanced to the regional competition of the National History Bee. New this year, the National History Bee is a competition open to middle and high school students. All Templeton students participated in the Intramural Bee by taking a 80-question, multiple-choice written test that covered U.S., world and modern history topics. Because Durian and Pino had the top two highest school scores, they completed in an online competition and qualified to advance to the National History Regional Bee March 15 at Marshall Middle School.
