Meijer Permit Heading for Review Thursday

The Plan Commission will evaluate a use permit that contains several changes to Sussex code to clear the way for the 200,000-square-foot development.

After an unprecedented 8-hour public hearing regarding the 200,000-square-foot Meijer Store development, the Plan Commission is ready to review an unprecedented permit for the proposal. After seven hours, separated by two separate meetings Nov. 28 and Dec. 20, 35 evidentiary exhibits, and testimony from residents, attorneys, and experts, the Plan Commission moved forward to the next step. Meijer is planning a 191,000-square-foot, 24-hour grocery and retail store on the corner of Highway 164 and County Highway K. Meijer is also considering a similar sized project in Oak Creek. According to the Sussex Sun, the draft of the proposal contains several exceptions to the village code. The Plan Commission will review…

Thank for your letting me know you agree with me. Aren't there more people out here who do not want this? Why are they staying quiet? We lived in Sussex when we were first married. That was more than thirty-five years ago. It was such a lovely place, so we decided to move back here. We refuse to move from this area. We helped fight the merger between Sussex, and the Town of Lisbon. Can't we fight…   more ›
