How Long is the ER Wait at Sussex-Area Hospitals?

Emergency room wait times are Waukesha Memorial Hospital are significantly higher than they are at Community Memorial in Menomonee Falls. New Medicare database shows how hospitals across Wisconsin — and the rest of the nation — compare.

If you go to the emergency room at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, how long will it take before you see a health-care professional? The federal government says 39 minutes on average. That's a higher than both the state and national averages — 19 minutes and a 29 minutes, respectively. And it's more than twice as long as the average wait as the other hospital nearest to Sussex — Community Memorial in Menomonee Falls, according to a new federal database causing some hospital officials nationwide to cringe. Sussex Chelsea and David Jaskolski announce the birth of their son, Finnian Mack, on May 4. He was 8 pounds, 3 ounces and 20-1/2 inches long. Hospital's Nurses Take Weight-Loss Challenge, Donate Food to Pantry

For each pound they lost, nurses donated an item to Menomonee Falls Food Pantry.

An inspired group of Community Memorial Hospital nurses doubled down on a weight-loss initiative, turning it into a valiant effort to help feed the poor. A total of 22 nurses lost a total of 287 pounds over a period of 12 weeks. For each pound lost, the nurses donated an item to the Menonomee Falls Food Pantry, which received the donation of food Tuesday. "Because we are nurses, by nature we want to help people," said neonatal intensive care unit nurse Amy Nichols, who organized the effort among her fellow nurses. "Thanksgiving is just a time to remember people who are a lot less fortunate than us."  Among her co-workers, Nichols is known as the fitness and health guru. Growing Prescription Drug Shortages Alarm Falls Pharmacists

Drug shortages, including medications to treat cancer, heart disease and attention-deficit disorder, are on the rise nationwide.

Last year, the number of newly reported prescription drug shortages in the United States hit a record total of 211.  Already during the first quarter of 2011, there have been 196 reported shortages and if the trend continues,  the number of drug shortages will double those seen in 2010. That was the alarming message presented at Community Memorial Hospital recently during a President’s Advisory Council meeting. Terry Audley, the hospital’s Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor and Mark Meranda, the hospital’s Outpatient Pharmacist, painted a disturbing picture of the situation for area business leaders who attended. Register for 'Wheeling for Healing' Bike Ride

Community Memorial Hospital event celebrates those who battle or have beaten cancer.

Register today for the 14th annual Wheeling for Healing family bike ride, conducted by Community Memorial Hospital. The Aug. 13 event benefits the hospital's Cancer Care Center. Three rides are offered — 4 miles, 15 miles or 33 miles — and all begin and end at the hospital, W180N8085 Town Hall Road. Registration before July 22 is $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Then it increases to $30 and $20, respectively. Team registrations are available for $200 for up to 10 riders. New this year is a family registration, two adults and two youth for $65 before July 22 and $85 after. Every rider receives a T-shirt and a free picnic lunch.
