Griddlers Café in Menomonee Falls always prided itself on its 24/7 service, but the doors are now shut and locked — perhaps permanently — on the popular late-night dining location. A sign hangs on the doorway informing patrons that Griddlers is closed, but will open again at “6 a.m. Tomorrow." However, that tomorrow could apply to many more tomorrows down the road. Don Hensiak, co-founder of the now five-restaurant franchise, said Falls Griddlers owner Diane Neavins was forced to close the eatery due to undisclosed health issues. A sluggish economy was blamed for the decision to close after over two years in business on the corner of Main and Mill streets in Menomonee Falls.
Angelo’s Café Vino in downtown Menomonee Falls is closing its doors for good. Café Vino owners announced the closing Monday morning. After two years in business on the corner of Main and Mill streets, owners of the coffee shop and wine bar just couldn’t make it work in the sluggish economy. “In retrospect, we picked perhaps the most challenging economy and business climate in the past 75 years to attempt this start-up restaurant venture,” said Building Owner Bill Bode in a news release. “For the past two and a half years we have been optimistically looking forward to a genuine improvement in the business climate. Unfortunately the turnaround of this languishing economy still looks too far off and the prudent choice for us is to close.” …
The Sussex location is one of 11 pharmacies purchased by the competing drug store. With Blockbuster closed, the strip mall is turning into a strip of empty storefronts.
Editor's Note: This article was updated with new information at 1:30 p.m. Just off the heels of Blockbuster closing its doors, Aurora Pharmacy did the same seemingly over night just a few storefronts down. From as far north as Green Bay to the south in Twin Lakes, 11 Aurora pharmacies have been sold to Walgreens, including the Sussex location near Pick 'n Save. The closure was finalized on March 29, and according to Aurora spokesperson Adam Beeson, so were the layoffs. "In total, the sale impacted 82 employees," Beeson said. "Our intention is to find other job opportunities for all 82 employees by April 20, and as of today, half of those employees have received job offers from Aurora."
