East Wins 14-13 in OT for Conference Title, Undefeated Season

The Spartans finish the regular season 8-0 and head into the playoffs with their first Greater Metro Conference title in 28 years.

The Brookfield East football team finished with a perfect season, winning the Greater Metro Conference title outright in its first crown in 28 years. The Spartans knocked off Sussex Hamilton 14-13 in OT, in a battle that was scoreless at half and tied 7-7 at the end of regulation. The final play was a defensive one, with East stopping the Chargers at the one-yard line. They blocked a two-point conversion that would have flipped the outcome and had the Spartans and Chargers sharing the conference title. Had that happened, it would have been a three-way tie because Menomonee Falls beat Brookfield Central 14-0 and was the one team this season that beat the Chargers. The last time Brookfield East won the conference crown? 1984 in the 14-team …

PHOTOS: Hamilton Toppled by Brookfield East in Baseball

The Hamilton Chargers were burned on Friday night, losing 2-6 after playing the Brookfield East's Spartans in baseball.

Hamilton High School's dreams of a state baseball title came to a screeching halt Friday night after playing Brookfield East and losing 2-6.  The Chargers, seeded fifth, played the fourth-seeded Spartans at 5:30 at Brookfield East High School. During the first few innings, the two evenly-matched teams were neck-and-neck. However, it wasn't long before the team from Brookfield inched its way forward, securing a spot in the sectionals on Monday. The Spartans will play the No. 1 seeded Kettle Moraine High School at Waukesha West at 11 a.m. The Lasers are 20-9 overall, while the team from Brookfield is just 15-14.

Hamilton junior Aaron Mushall and senior Marc Lunowa rounded out the final two runs for the Chargers in the bottom of the fourth, leaving them with seven runs total.  The team from Hamilton, seeded fifth, will now play fourth-seeded Brookfield East on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. at Brookfield East High School. Bharatanatyam, a Beautiful Art Form

Natyarpana Dance Company students will perform classical Indian dances this summer that are free and open to the public.

Wearing ornate, brightly colored costumes, decorative temple jewelry, stylized makeup and bells on their ankles, seven students of Guru Kripa Baskaran at Natyarpana Dance Company will perform debut dances called Arangetrams this summer.  Based in Brookfield and Madison, the dance school teaches about 100 students from ages three to adult a form of classical Indian dance called Bharatanatyam. The dance has roots going back more than 2,500 years in India, and it combines expression, music, rhythm and drama. Dancers tell stories through a combination of facial expressions, elaborate hand gestures and poses.  “Bharatanatyam is a beautiful art form and people should know about it," said Ragashree Komandur, an eighth grade student at Wisconsin …

Central Girls Claim Title; Hamilton Relays Dominant

Strong showings set up more of the same at Thursday's sectional.

It was the same old story for Brookfield Central’s girls track and field team at Monday’s Hamilton Regional. The Lancers continued their string of dominance from the Greater Metro Conference season by taking first overall with 168 points and sending more than a handful of individuals to Thursday’s sectional. See full results here. “Very, very good day,” Brookfield Central coach Trae Hoepner said. “We had a lot of kind of surprises. We had a pole vaulter go 10 feet, which was a foot higher than she had ever gone before. (In) discus we went 1-2, (in the) 3200 (meter) we went 2-3. There are just a lot of areas we doubled up and got a lot of people through which is what we like to see.” In all, Central qualified for sectionals in 14 different …

East, Hamilton Boys Show Strength in Track Regional

They will be favorites to advance numerous athletes to state from Thursday's sectional meet.

Ninety nine percent ain’t bad.  That’s how Brookfield East boys track coach Mike Steiner felt after Monday’s regional at Sussex Hamilton High School that saw nearly everyone who he expected to advance do just that. Full results are here. “We came here and very much tried to have a championship focus,” Steiner said. “Really the goal is just to get through to the next level; just another step. I thought for the most part the guys handled that pretty well. “We feel pretty good. Probably 99 percent of what we thought we’d get through we got through, but we had one little hiccup.” The Spartans continued their domination over their rivals from the Greater Metro Conference as they racked up 175 points and will now send participants to sectionals …

SportsEdge: The Week in Prep Sports

A video recap of the week in high school sports.

Whenever Whitefish Bay and Nicolet compete, it doesn't matter whether it's basketball or tiddlywinks — these North Shore neighbors are rivals. But add the physicality of rugby, and it's even more competitive. The two excellent programs squared off in the SportsEdge Game of the Week this week. There are plenty more highlights in the Lightning Round, including soccer, golf, tennis and softball from all around the area. Watch SportsEdge to see if someone you know was captured by our cameras. And if you've not seen the previous editions, check them out here: April 12 Game of the Week — Hamilton at Brookfield East girls soccer April 19 Game of the Week — Lakeshore vs. Brookfield boys lacrosse April 26 Game of the Week — Brookfield Central Skins…

SportsEdge: The Week in Prep Sports

Brookfield Central Skins Game is played in shirts ... and hats and gloves and parkas and ...

SportsEdge sent intrepid videographer AJ Randall to the sloppy, cold and wet Wanaki Golf Course last week as the 22-team Brookfield Central Skins Game went off as planned. It's our Game of the Week. For the Lightning Round from a week thinned out by weather and spring break, check out Nicolet soccer, Tosa West soccer and softball and North Shore Conference golf at The Bog. Did you miss the earlier editions of SportsEdge? Find them here: April 12  April 19 HONOR ROLL The state girls soccer poll is lopsided, and the field tips heavily toward the North Shore Conference. Five of the conference's eight teams — half the top 10 — is from the NSC. Homestead, which just beat No. 1 Brookfield Central last week, is No. 4 pending that result. Then …
