Central Outlasts Hamilton in 56-38 Shootout

Turnovers the difference in Lancers big win.

What defensive battle? Brookfield Central broke their long-standing history of having a grind-it-out type game with Sussex-Hamilton by knocking off the Chargers, 56-38, in a barnburner of a game that saw huge offensive numbers and lasted over three hours. “We knew that’s a great Sussex-Hamilton football team, they’re well coached and every time you play them you’ve got to be ready, but I didn’t expect that high of scoring,” Brookfield Central head coach Jamie Meulemans said. “They play great defense year in and year out and we pride ourselves in that too, but our kids are really starting to click offensively. “It’s been outstanding to see the kids pick up (the offense). It’s like preseason in the NFL. You start to see teams come together; …

Central Girls Claim Title; Hamilton Relays Dominant

Strong showings set up more of the same at Thursday's sectional.

It was the same old story for Brookfield Central’s girls track and field team at Monday’s Hamilton Regional. The Lancers continued their string of dominance from the Greater Metro Conference season by taking first overall with 168 points and sending more than a handful of individuals to Thursday’s sectional. See full results here. “Very, very good day,” Brookfield Central coach Trae Hoepner said. “We had a lot of kind of surprises. We had a pole vaulter go 10 feet, which was a foot higher than she had ever gone before. (In) discus we went 1-2, (in the) 3200 (meter) we went 2-3. There are just a lot of areas we doubled up and got a lot of people through which is what we like to see.” In all, Central qualified for sectionals in 14 different …

East, Hamilton Boys Show Strength in Track Regional

They will be favorites to advance numerous athletes to state from Thursday's sectional meet.

Ninety nine percent ain’t bad.  That’s how Brookfield East boys track coach Mike Steiner felt after Monday’s regional at Sussex Hamilton High School that saw nearly everyone who he expected to advance do just that. Full results are here. “We came here and very much tried to have a championship focus,” Steiner said. “Really the goal is just to get through to the next level; just another step. I thought for the most part the guys handled that pretty well. “We feel pretty good. Probably 99 percent of what we thought we’d get through we got through, but we had one little hiccup.” The Spartans continued their domination over their rivals from the Greater Metro Conference as they racked up 175 points and will now send participants to sectionals …

There are plenty more highlights in the Lightning Round, including soccer, golf, tennis and softball from all around the area. Watch SportsEdge to see if someone you know was captured by our cameras. SportsEdge: The Week in Prep Sports

Brookfield Central Skins Game is played in shirts ... and hats and gloves and parkas and ...

SportsEdge sent intrepid videographer AJ Randall to the sloppy, cold and wet Wanaki Golf Course last week as the 22-team Brookfield Central Skins Game went off as planned. It's our Game of the Week. For the Lightning Round from a week thinned out by weather and spring break, check out Nicolet soccer, Tosa West soccer and softball and North Shore Conference golf at The Bog. Did you miss the earlier editions of SportsEdge? Find them here: April 12  April 19 HONOR ROLL The state girls soccer poll is lopsided, and the field tips heavily toward the North Shore Conference. Five of the conference's eight teams — half the top 10 — is from the NSC. Homestead, which just beat No. 1 Brookfield Central last week, is No. 4 pending that result. Then …
