But . . . a big surprise is in store for any of our feathered friends that see this birdhouse from high above and think, finally — safe from the storm!
This beautiful, weathered birdhouse on the edge of the woods directly behind Woodside Elementary School in Sussex must look like a magnificent mansion — from afar — to a snowswept bird seeking any ol' port in a storm (like this week's). However, like the drafty old abandoned house that George and Mary Bailey move into and slowly fix up in the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life," this little home is also missing some important parts — like a roof! Attention birdhouse-building carpenters in Sussex: Anyone of a mind to call the school and propose a fun class project in which you would help the kids learn about both carpentry and nature? Just an idea.
