Aurora, Blockbuster Vacancies at a Legal Standstill

Waiting for exciting new tenants to fill the former Blockbuster and Aurora Pharmacy locations near Pick ‘n Save? Don’t hold your breath.

After both Aurora Pharmacy and Blockbuster Video closed in March and April, residents began buzzing about what was in line to fill the spaces. “Have you heard anything about what would possibly be going into the Blockbuster and the Aurora Pharmacy spaces?” asked Dyan Oleson Brinkman on Sussex Patch’s Facebook page. “I am crossing my fingers for Panera. Wouldn't the pharmacy be the PERFECT location for it?” According to village officials, residents shouldn’t hold their breath. Roundy’s Supermarkets, the company that owns Pick ‘n Save, is in charge of leasing the entire strip mall attached to the grocery store. Aurora Pharmacy Closes, Purchased by Walgreens

The Sussex location is one of 11 pharmacies purchased by the competing drug store. With Blockbuster closed, the strip mall is turning into a strip of empty storefronts.

Editor's Note: This article was updated with new information at 1:30 p.m. Just off the heels of Blockbuster closing its doors, Aurora Pharmacy did the same seemingly over night just a few storefronts down.  From as far north as Green Bay to the south in Twin Lakes, 11 Aurora pharmacies have been sold to Walgreens, including the Sussex location near Pick 'n Save. The closure was finalized on March 29, and according to Aurora spokesperson Adam Beeson, so were the layoffs.  "In total, the sale impacted 82 employees," Beeson said. "Our intention is to find other job opportunities for all 82 employees by April 20, and as of today, half of those employees have received job offers from Aurora." And Walgreens has already stepped in to take control…
