Art Student of the Month: Morgan Eberhardy

This month, Hamilton High School student Morgan Eberhardy's art is in the spotlight.

Every month Sussex Patch highlights the artistic talents of one of Hamilton High School's creative students. This month, Morgan Eberhardy is in the spotlight. Here's a statement about her art:  "I have taken many art classes since I was in elementary school. Even though the art classes weren’t that technical it was still something that I really enjoyed. In middle school I took an art class every single year but I took a break my freshman year from art. My sophomore year I had Art Survey at HHS. This was the class that inspired me to start taking art classes again. In my junior year I took Stained Glass because it’s the one class I always wanted to take since middle school. My senior year I took Graphic Arts 1, Graphic Arts 2 and Advanced …

Art Student of the Month: Taylor Kessenich

This month, Hamilton High School sophomore Taylor Kessenich's art is in the spotlight.

Every month Sussex Patch highlights the artistic talents of one of Hamilton High School's creative students. This month, sophomore Taylor Kessenich is in the spotlight. Here's a statement about her art:  "I am Taylor Kessenich, a member of the class of 2015 at Sussex Hamilton High School.  Art is somewhat of a new interest to me.  I have only taken a few classes at the middle school and Stained Glass is the first Art class I have taken in high school.  Primarily, my strengths have always been in the subjects of math and science.  I was lucky though in this first semester to be able to get into stained glass.  I feel that when designing a piece, it draws on my strong math background when sketching it out and it symmetrically comes together …

PHOTOS: Art Student of the Month, Breanna Hertzberg

Hamilton student Breanna Hertzberg shows off her artwork on Patch and explains what art means to her.

Hamilton High School student Breanna Hertzberg writes: My interest in art goes back to elementary school when I had art every day.  I started to realize my talent in art in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. I am currently taking Art Survey here at HHS as a sophomore, which I like because I have the opportunity to try a little of everything. Next semester I will be taking drawing and then most likely going onto painting or a ceramics class and finally working towards an AP class.  In the future I would like to pursue a career as an art instructor, because I enjoy teaching others about the art that interest me. One of my favorite artists is Van Gogh, and one of my favorite pieces that he painted was The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum. I…

Patch's Art Student of the Month, Kim Winter, shares her favorite pieces of glass work and explains what art means to her in her student testimonial.

Dear Editor, I just wanted to start off saying thank you to everyone who was involved in giving me this award. Even though it was a huge surprise to me, I am very honored.  Throughout my four years at Hamilton I have completed three art classes: Photos, Stained Glass and Advanced Glass. After exploring the two mediums, I am more drawn to glass because I like taking my ideas, creating them with my hands and melting them into three-dimensional forms.   Stained Glass taught me how to be accurate and precise as well as the Tiffany method of construction. Advanced Stained Glass focuses more on the process of heating/melting glass and 3D pieces. As I complete high school this year, it is hard to visualize my future without art in it. I have …

PHOTOS: Amy Zoulek Shows Off Her Glass Creations

As Sussex Patch's art student of the month, Amy Zoulek shares photos of her glass creations and tells us what drives her to be an artist.

Amy Zoulek writes: Throughout my academic career I have taken various art classes. It started with general classes in elementary and middle school to more advanced and specialized classes in high school. As a freshman, I took the Art Survey class where I worked on my painting, drawing, and basic sculpting skills. After taking this class, I found that I wanted to continue studying art, but more specifically glass. My mom had always practiced stained glass when I was little, and I knew the school had the program, which is very rare in a high school, so I wanted to try it. I started by taking the Beginners Stained Glass class, and then moved up to Advanced Glass, and now I am currently in an Independent Study Glass class. In the future, I do …

PHOTOS: Art Student of the Month, Jordan Kind

Hamilton student Jordan Kind shows off his artwork on Patch and explains what art means to him.

Hamilton High School student Jordan Kind writes: Art is important to me because it’s an emotional outlet where you can truly let go of everything that troubles you and enter a new world created by your imagination. Art gives me a reason to work hard and improve my skills. It allows me to express my individuality and develop my true sense of self. Art, to me, is a cultural diamond that intrigues me to see a new perspective of the world and all of its artistic value. There is artistic value in everything. For instance, the art of theater, or the art of music can all be claimed as being artistic. Art gives me a sense of pride and progress. Seeing a piece develop into the masterpiece you envisioned gives me such a sense of accomplishment. I …

PHOTOS: Hamilton's Art Student of the Month Shares Creations

Coni Dowden is named Hamilton's top art student and decides to share her talents.

I am Coni Dowden, a junior currently attending Hamilton High School, and I was named December's art student of the month. I am currently enrolled in AP Studio Art, and I'm working on a portfolio for a College Board exam this spring. Art has been a part of my life since before I can remember, and I can’t imagine myself without it. As a child, I remember my mother having an entire wall dedicated to my crayon drawings. Every drawing I ever did was hung there, from family portraits to school projects to designs of fantastic and fairytale-like creatures. That wall followed me throughout my childhood, reminding me of my constant improvement and development as an artist. There are always ways to improve and mature at your talents. Because art is…
