Academically competitive with the strongest school systems in the state, the Hamilton School District has been led since 1993 by superintendent Kathleen Cooke, Ph.D. Cooke began her education career as an elementary teacher in 1979 in the Oconomowoc School District, became an elementary principal, then middle school principal and served two years as Director of Human Resources before being named to the Oconomowoc School District's leadership team in 1992-93 as Assistant Superintendent. The seven-member Hamilton Board of Education includes two at-large seats elected from any location in the district, with one representative each from the Village of Sussex, Village of Lannon, Village of Butler, Village of Menomonee Falls and Town of Lisbon. The body meets in regular session on the third Monday of each month in offices adjacent to Hamilton High School. In 2010, the Hamilton School District was named "Government of the Year" in Waukesha County.
