Village Scrapbook: Girl Scouts Inch Toward Highest Award

Three Sussex Girl Scouts raise money for charities in Milwaukee in hopes of snagging the troop's top honor.

students Erin Heaster, Maya Peske and Katie Ciolkosz organized a charity brat fry and bake sale on Oct. 9 to raise money for their Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a Cadette can earn.

The 13-year-olds held their fundraiser at the on Main Street, and village residents even got involved in the cause. Chuck Hoffman, owner of , donated brats and buns for the fundraiser. Also, Dennis Lipofski, owner of the Piggly Wiggly, hosted the fundraiser.

The girls raised over $330 for baby items that were donated to Despensa de la Paz, an outreach service in Milwaukee. This is one of the many volunteer events the three girls have participated in over the past year. To achieve the Silver Award, each girl must volunteer 50 hours.
