A charitable organization based in Sussex will donate cans of water to help keep runners hydrated during the Run For Water MKE event this weekend.
said it will donate the water along with their signature metal water bottles during the 5k run on Labor Day at Veterans Park in Milwaukee.
The proceeds of the event will benefit Engineers Without Borders and their efforts to support international and local water projects.
"Thousands of people in developing communities are experiencing a higher quality of life as a result of these valuable partnerships. We're happy to be a part of it," said Greg Stromberg, the CEO of CannedWater4Kids.
CannedWater4Kids is a 501(c)3 charity that funds its initiatives with cash donations and sales of its premium spring water product, according to its Web site.
Of every dollar collected, 95 cents goes to support clean water programs.
Recent efforts include sending water to Japan to aid in their post-earthquake water shortage, assisting UW-Milwaukee's Engineers Without Borders in bringing water purification solutions to the highlands of Guatemala, supporting of a well/water tank project in Zambia and the Bio Sand Filters project in Tanzania.
"We are excited about supporting EWB University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on their water projects," Stromberg said.
Packet pick-up and same day registration begins at 7 a.m. on Monday for the race. The race begins at 10 a.m. Runners also can register online. Refreshments and entertainment will be served after the race.
