Ask The Experts

This weeks question comes from Nate A. from Pewaukee, WI

How often should I clean my furnace, air conditioning, or heat pump filter?

While this seems like it would be an easy answer it is actually a lot more complex than you would think.  Technicians in the past have recommended that the filters should be changed on a monthly basis. It actually depends on a number of factors including the thickness of filter you purchase (1"-5") the quality of the filter, and the quality of the air within your home. Not everyone's house and habits are the same. If you have three or four cats, or if someone in your house smokes, you should change the filter more often.  Likewise if you purchase a low quality 1" filter you will need to replace it more often. Our best advice is to purchase a high efficiency filter, check it on a monthly basis, and plan on changing it once or twice per heating or cooling season.

Thank you Nate for your GREAT question.
