Ride the Heat Wave, and Stay Cool in Sussex

Hot weather can be risky for the elderly and others with health conditions. Here are some public places to stay in Sussex.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch through Friday, and there are a few places in Sussex to stay cool.

The elderly, the young and people with underlying health conditions, such as chronic lung and heart problems, are at particular risk during heat waves. Be certain to take a break and cool down. 

Pauline Haass Library

Grab a book, find a comfortable spot, and enjoy a good read in the comforts of air conditioning. The library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

The Sussex Community Center

The community center has plenty of games, puzzles, and cards to pass the time in an air-conditioned building while the sun in shining. Folks of all ages can stop out and enjoy the center.

Seniors can also sign up to enjoy lunch at the community center by calling (262) 246-6747, and giving the center 24 hours notice. There is a suggested $4 donation for lunch.

Menomonee Park 

Take a dip in the crisp waters of Quarry Lake, and perhaps stay the night and camp under the stars. The beach is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day from June 1 through August. Camping is first come, first serve at the 33 individual sites. You can also reserve group sites.
