PHOTOS: Hamilton Softball Team Headed to State
In what some are calling a "Cinderella run," the Hamilton girls softball team is headed to the state competition Thursday for the first time in 20 years.
For the first time in two decades, the girls softball team is headed to the state competition on Thursday in Madison.
The Hamilton girls beatt out Watertown High School on Friday 4-3 to secure a spot on the state tournament at Goodman Field at the University Wisconsin-Madison. The girls are currently 7-7 in the Greater Metro Conference and 16-9 overall.
“That is one heck of a Cinderella run,” Hamilton coach Jim Lawinger told the Watertown Daily Times. “We lost the last couple games of the year against good teams, but were trying some things out. We didn’t win the games, but were playing better. After those games out there became ‘anything can happen.’ Today it did.”

The girls will be competing for the state title against Chippewa Falls High School Thursday, but it certainly won't be an easy win. The girls of Chippewa Falls have only lost two games this season.
The team will play Chippewa Falls at 9 a.m. at Goodman Field.
