Hamilton Girls Capture Falls Invitational

Chargers girls win three relay events, plus pole vault and 100 meters.

Hamilton's girls track team boasts some of the state's top relay foursomes, and the Chargers relied a strong performance from the 1,600 unit to win the Menomonee Falls Invite on Tuesday.

The winning time of 4:03.14 is fourth on the state's honor roll, according to WisSports.net. That victory, along with a pole vault triumph by junior Shannon Burke, gave the Chargers the team title with 120 points. Brookfield East scored 114. Find full results at WisSports.net.

"We didn't have any 2-milers so we knew that we would fall behind," Hamilton  coach Ben Nysse told JSOnline.com. "We were dependent on the (1,600 relay) and the pole vault to come through. That's a season's best for our pole vaulter and it's also a season's best for our four-by-four team."

Hamilton also won the 400 and 800 relays, though not in season-best time. The Chargers rank second in the state in the 400 relay and third in the 800. Also winning for the Chargers was Amanda Landergott in the 100 and Shannon Downs in the 1,600.

Hamilton finished with 120 points, edging Brookfield East, which scored 114. East's Maddie Timm (11:37.97) and senior Taylor Stewart (11:39.90) took the top two spots in the 3,200 to give their team the lead.
