Anyone tried Boneyard Pub & Grille?

Boneyard Pub & Grille - not impressed!

Last Thursday was a crazy evening with the kids after school events, therefore we decided to check out the newest restaurant addition, the . I was one of the sad Sussex residents when closed it's doors as we would often frequent their sushi bar. But after reading reviews from Boneyard's other location, I was looking forward to trying it.

As we arrived there, we were asked to wait 10 to 15 minutes which ended up being more like over 20 minutes. With my toddler being impatient I decided to walk around with her back and forth and noticed that the restaurant wasn't even that full with quite a few tables empty.

Also I had asked the nice lady at the entrance what I needed to do to learn more about their fundraiser program for our daughters' dance school. She let me know that one of the managers would talk to me shortly. We left without ever meeting any manager.

We finally got seated and to my surprise they did not have booster seats, only high chairs! Ok... interesting. Also there were ONLY 8 tables filled and 4 waitresses. Still do not get why we had to wait such a long time.

We decided to try all types of foods; this way we would get a feeling for their food. Now prior to my commenting on my thoughts about the food, I am the first one to recognize that I AM a food snob, but the way I see it is that if I am going to a restaurant I expect good food. I LOVE to cook and LOVE to eat. And the restaurant type does not matter as long as it is good. For example I will take anyday. LOVE their food and atmosphere. But that's another future post.

Here is a list of what we ordered:

  • Two cokes with lemon slices: she forgot the lemon slices!
  • One unsweetened ice tea: machine broken, so it was not fresh brewed but syrup type.
  • Jalapeño poppers: the jalapeño itself was soggy and the cream cheese was just that, not spices or anything in it. Very bland. And the very first time I had them where they did not even have a bite to them.
  • Portabella Mushrooms: extremely greasy and heavy on the breading, so barely any taste of the mushroom.
  • Wonton Wrapped Mozzarella Sticks: in the description is says a "...thin wonton. Served with marinara sauce." The marinara sauce never made it to the table and I would not call it thin wonton as it was pretty well wrapped in them. Actually I think each cheese stick must have had at least two layers of wonton. Also again extremely greasy.
  • Half a Rack Ribs: this may have been the best thing we ate. They were juicy and tender.
  • Buffalo wings: we decided to order two types of sauces, the dry jerk, which was actually pretty tasty and the Insane Buffalo which I was expecting to be spicy and was not, so not sure if they messed up our order or they are simply not spicy, certainly not insane. I told the waitress about it and she brought a small sample of the spiciest sauce, which indeed was extremely spicy but no taste whatsoever. Just spicy hot. So absolutely not impressed. I would take the Buffalo Wild Wings over anyday. At least they ARE spicy BUT also have taste.
  • Seafood Pasta: in my mind this was the biggest disappointment. The pasta was way overcooked and there were merrily 6 shrimps in the whole plate. The shrimps were small and tasteless. It came with a salad as a side where you could see that the lettuce was not the freshest.

As sad as this makes me to say, unless they shape up and I hear from others this place will get better, I will not bother going back there.
