Woodside Elementary Taking Metals to the Bank

The school will be collecting metal Saturday to promote recycling, as well as selling it to raise money.

is ready to turn your trash into treasure on Saturday during its recycling fundraiser.

Running from 8 a.m. to noon at the school, Woodside’s Green Team and Student Council will be collecting everything from aluminum to cast iron to recycle and sell. The school will be pairing up with Action Recyclers to get the job done.

“Action Recyclers sells the metal and pays us based on the going rate of the types of metal we collect,” said first grade teacher Mindy Pilecky. “We heard about the idea through other community organizations that have held the same fundraiser with much success.”

This will be Woodside’s first metal recycling fundraiser, but Pilecky hopes it won’t be its last. The school already has a recycling program and students are encouraged to participate every day.

However, unlike empting recycling bins, this type of recycling has the potential to earn the school some money, and Action Recyclers will take just about anything.

“We are excited to offer a green way for people in the community to clean out the junk in their garages and basements, while also earning money to support environmental education,” Pilecky said.
