University News: Graduates, Awards & Dean's Lists

Between graduates and smart students making the grade, this is a list of achievements by Sussex natives attending area universities.

Lawrence University

The following areal students received bachelor degrees on June 10 from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI at its 163rd commencement ceremony.

  • Jonathan Bellotti, son of John and Anne Bellotti, Sussex, earned a bachelor of arts degree in government. Bellotti is a 2008 graduate of Milton (Mass.) Academy.
  • Kelly Mariahazy, daughter of Thomas and Karen Schwartz, Sussex, earned a bachelor of arts degree in studio art. Mariahazy is a 2006 graduate of Wrightstown High School.

University of Wisconsin - Stout

Students from the Sussex area attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout are recipients of the Chancellor's Award for the spring 2012 semester. The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

  • Joshua Bootz of Sussex is majoring in engineering technology.
  • Alec Fotsch of Sussex is majoring in packaging.

University of Wisconsin - Platteville

University of Wisconsin-Platteville announced its 2012 spring semester Dean's List. Students receive this academic honor in the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture and the College of Liberal Arts and Education must achieve a 3.75 grade point average and students in the College of Engineering, Math and Science must earn a 3.5 grade point average.

Among those who made the Dean's List were,

  • Sonnee Lozano from Lisbon, WI
  • Andrew Taavola from Sussex, WI

In addition, Stephanie Kirchner from Sussex made the Chancellor's List by earning a 4.0 grade point average during the semester. Attainment of the Chancellor's list represents the highest academic achievement at UW- Platteville.
