PHOTOS: Art Student of the Month, Jordan Kind

Hamilton student Jordan Kind shows off his artwork on Patch and explains what art means to him.

student Jordan Kind writes:

Art is important to me because it’s an emotional outlet where you can truly let go of everything that troubles you and enter a new world created by your imagination.

Art gives me a reason to work hard and improve my skills. It allows me to express my individuality and develop my true sense of self. Art, to me, is a cultural diamond that intrigues me to see a new perspective of the world and all of its artistic value.

There is artistic value in everything. For instance, the art of theater, or the art of music can all be claimed as being artistic. Art gives me a sense of pride and progress. Seeing a piece develop into the masterpiece you envisioned gives me such a sense of accomplishment.

Art is my passion and I’d be best if I made a living off of it.

I started my art ambition my junior year, cramming three art classes -- Art Survey, 2-D Drawing, and Painting -- into two semesters of hard work and achievement. This year I am currently taking AP Studio and, on a side note, Stained Glass.

Outside of school, I enjoy sketching things that interest me in my sketchbook, and other practice sketches to help me get a better understanding of the structure of certain qualities of 2D art. I also was involved in the 3D aspect of art for I have participated in FIRST Robotics animation contests for three years. I even attended a small animation class at the University of Chicago one summer.

As of right now, I hope to get a major in animation and graphic design. It is my career of choice for it combines my two passions: art and computers.

I hope to use the knowledge I gain here in high school, combined with the knowledge from college, to help me create beautiful masterpieces.

Art is my passion and I’d be best if I made a living off of it.

Descriptions of my Artwork:

Concentrations: For my concentrations I am working with the different personas of angels. Each piece fundamentally shows an angel in some sort of situation or mood. The use of symbolism is apparent in the work. Each of the art elements and principals can be found throughout the concentration.

Breadths: These are the class guided paintings that we have been working on over the course of the year. Each piece has its own focus that we were to emphasize.
