National Recognition Earned By Hamilton H.S. Student Store

The Chargers Corner student store at Hamilton H.S. will be recognized in Orlando, FL for excellence and gold-level certification.

Two Hamilton High School students who co-manage the building's student store are responsible for earning gold-level recertification -- one of only 112 stores nationwide that operate at such a high level.

Sarah Bregant's and Lauren Wirsbinski's work will be recognized by the student business and marketing education organization, DECA, at its International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Fl.

The faculty advisor for the 'Chargers Corner' store is marketing teacher, Skip Hay. For five years the Hamilton Charger Corner has operated as a Gold Level Certified school-based enterprise (SBE).

"SBEs are effective educational tools in helping to prepare students for the transition from school to work or college. For many students, they provide the first work experience; for others, they provide an opportunity to build management, supervision and leadership skills," explained district spokesperson Denise Dorn Lindberg.

Marketing teachers and DECA advisors have used SBEs as "powerful learning labs for more than four decades," Lindberg said.

DECA developed the SBE Certification Program to recognize outstanding achievement and motivate excellence and growth.

Approximately 120 students are involved in Hamilton’s DECA Chapter.
