Hamilton Students Among the County's Best in Test Scores

The district in the top three in several categories in latest WKCE results.

Students in the are continuing to show strong results in the state's standardized test scores, as the latest results show 95.1 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced in reading and 93.5 percent achieving that level in math.

“Our students are showing progress as they go through the district. We track a cohort group so that we can determine if they have maintained or increased their academic performance relative to their grade level peers," district spokeswoman Denise Dorn Lindberg said. “We’ve found that when we look at student performance...students' achievement increases as they go through the district.

“As they progress through our district, more students are in advanced and proficient categories, and fewer are in the basic and minimal categories," she added. "The longer we have them, the better they do on the state standardized tests.”

 The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recently released the results of the November Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination, which measures yearly learning progress for students to assess district achievement.

Lindberg said typically more than 90 percent of Hamilton students score proficient and advanced in nearly every subject area and grade level. In the latest results, from the 2010-11 school year, Hamtion was near the top of the 11 Waukesha County School Districts at every level.

Hamilton finished in the top three for county districts in a number of categories, including third-grade reading and math; fourth-grade reading, math and social studies;  fifth-grade reading; sixth grade reading and math; seventh-grade reading and math; eighth-grade reading, math, language arts and science; and 10th-grade reading and language arts.

In the 2009-10 school year, 92.5 percent of Hamilton students scored proficient or advanced in both reading and math, and in the 2008-09 school year, 92 percent scored proficient or advanced in reading, while 92.5 percent scored proficient or advanced in math.

“We have a strategic plan with strategies that align with the achievement results we are seeing,” Lindberg said. “Our success is intentional and we have planned for it.”
