Hamilton Shakes Up Administrative Positions

Changes are expected to net $40,000 in savings in the 2011-12 school year.

One full-time administrative position has been eliminated in the Hamilton School District in an effort to save money.

The Hamilton School Board has approved moving around administrative positions in an effort to save $40,000 in the 2011-12 school year and bring down technology consultant costs.

“The position descriptions were updated as a result of the need to reduce the district budget by $2.6 million to meet revenue caps prescribed in the governor’s budget,” Superintendent Kathleen Cooke said. “Our intent was to align responsibilities and restructure positions in a way that will allow us to fulfill our strategic plan goals with fewer resources.”

Under the changes, the instructional technology and assessment coordinator position was eliminated, and the responsibilities of the position reassigned to the supervisor of instructional services and the information technology manager position.

The supervisor of instructional services will oversee the technology department and report to the superintendent.

The director of educational services and human resources position has been changed to the director of human resources and organizational development, which will focus mainly on personnel matters.

The manager of information technology position will also pick up more management functions with the changes and the network engineer and computer support technician was revised. Two part-time positions have also been established for client support and Web application development in order to eliminate outside Web development.

District spokeswoman Denise Dorn Lindberg said Hamilton’s supervisor of instructional services resigned last year and instead of filling the position, the instructional technology and assessment coordinator took over those responsibilities on an interim basis in the 2010-11 school year.

“The action taken by the School Board this week was specific to the position descriptions and did not involve appointments of any individuals,” she said. “Ultimately, it is expected that the person who took over responsibilities this year will become the supervisor of instructional services in 2011-12 when her current position is eliminated.”
