Hamilton Schools Celebrate Red Ribbon Week

Two area elementary schools are celebrating a national event that supports keeping kids away from drugs.

students got a surprise visit from Ronald McDonald this afternoon when the famous clown dropped in to tell the kids about "giving back."

It's all a part of the nationally recognized event called Red Ribbon Week highlighting the fight against drugs, and both Lannon Elementary and are showing their support.

Fifth-graders at Maple Avenue launched "Maple Ink & More," a four-day fundraiser where students sell and apply temporary tattoos supporting Red Ribbon Week.

Lannon, however, pulled out all the stops, equipping four days with a theme, dress code and activity.

Monday

  • Daily theme – “Use Your Head – Too Smart to Start”
  • Students are invited to wear red on their heads, like hats and clips.
  • J.K. Lee will present a “Verbal Defense” program for students in grades 3-5.
  • The Lannon Cardinal will hand out red wrist bands.

Tuesday

  • Daily theme – “Turn Your Back on Drugs”
  • Students are invited to wear a red shirt backwards.
  • Students in grades K-2 will hear from Ronald McDonald on “Giving Back."

Wednesday

  • Daily theme – “Sock it to Drugs”
  • Students invited to wear red socks.
  • The Lannon Cardinal will hand out pencils.

Thursday

  • Daily theme – “Stand Up Against Drugs”
  • Students are invited to wear red pants, shorts or skirts.
  • The bulletin board will display responses from grades 2-5 completing the sentence, “I won’t do drugs because ...” and grades K-1 “Too Smart to Start” pictures.
