Village to See Savings Under New Biosolids Contract

Agreement approved by the Village Board Tuesday will allow for $18,000 in savings for the sewer utility in 2012.

The village’s sewer utility is about to see some savings with the approval of a new contract to haul biosolids from the wastewater treatment plant.

The Sussex Village Board gave unanimous approval Tuesday to award Super Nova Corporation a contract to haul the biosolids from the plant to farm fields approved by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

With the contract, the village will save about $18,000 in the first year of the contract.

“That will certainly help our sewer utility out,” village Administrator Jeremy Smith said.

Under the three year contract, Super Nova will charge the village 24 cents per gallon to haul the biosolids this year, 24.5 cents per gallon in 2013 and 25 cents per gallon in 2014. A fuel surcharge will be added to the hauls if fuel prices rise above $4.50 per gallon
