Verizon Requests Additional Water Tower Antennas

In addition to the antennas, Verizon would also install an outdoor generator, which they say would operate at a volume equivalent to a household dishwasher.

Verizon Wireless is looking to expand its real estate on the Sussex water tower.

Verizon would like to mount six antennas on an additional mounting ring, which would be constructed at the top of the tower. Verizon would also like to install a gas-powered generator on a concrete slab outside the small shelter on the site.  The generator would operate during power outages and routine tests. Verizon said the noise level from the device is similar to household dishwasher.

Verizon will appear for a public hearing at the August Plan Commission meeting. Village Manager Jeremy Smith said a strong contingent of disapproving residents attended a public hearing last additional cell phone antennas were proposed on the water tower.

Verizon would install a concrete pad and an additional 17 arborvitaes along the outside of the fence to obscure the site. The generator would also be painted in the same color as the water tower.

Verizon claims the additional antennas would improve protection of public health, safety, and welfare in the community.
